Employment figures hit a high

The news came as figures revealed that employment across the UK has reached its highest rate since records began, and that unemployment remains at its lowest level for 11 years - down over 900,000 since 2010.

Isle MP Andrew Percy welcomed the news that people in Brigg and Goole and the Isle of Axholme constituency claiming the key out of work benefits has fallen by 1,333 in the past seven years. This means that 2.3 per cent of the economically active population in thsi area are unemployed and currently claiming the key out of work benefits - a figure which puts them below the national average.

In Yorkshire and the Humber, it was revealed 200,000 more people are back in work in since 2010.

These recent figures also show wages continuing to grow strongly; the youth unemployment rate at its lowest since 2005, the rate of women in employment at a record high, and the number of disabled people in work up by nearly 600,000 over the past three years.

Mr Percy said: “These recent figures are great news for our country and for local people, with the number of people across this constituency relying on the key out of work benefits down 57 per cent since 2010, while the employment level nationwide has hit a record high.

“This means that unemployment is now actually below the national average in the constituency, which is a significant change and a real move in a positive direction for local residents.

“It shows that this Conservative Government has made real progress in creating a strong economy and helping people into work.”
