Employees of much loved Sheffield MD raise thousands in his memory

Staff at a South Yorkshire aerospace and nuclear manufacturing company have raised thousands for Sheffield Hospitals Charity in memory of their managing director.

Brian Jenkinson sadly passed away in May 2009, but since then the workforce at C. W. Fletcher & Sons Limited have held an annual fishing event in his name.

The event has raised more than £13,000 since 2010, all of which has been donated to the Clifford Robertshaw Legacy Fund, a Trust Fund held by Sheffield Hospitals Charity to provide support for the research of malignant brain tumours.

Elaine Shaw, PA to the Board at C. W. Fletcher & Sons, was not only a colleague of Brian’s, but also a close personal friend of more than 40 years.

She said: “Brian passed away in 2009 and since 2010 we have held the fishing event to raise money for something that is very close to all our employees’ hearts.

“Brian started his career at the company as an apprentice toolmaker at the age of 16 and rose through the ranks to become Managing Director. He knew everybody and was very well liked and respected.

“The Fishing Club, which is run by Eddie Roden, is at the heart of our fund raising activity and many businesses help us to raise as much as possible by lending their services free of charge. The generosity of all these people allows us to give every single penny raised to the Clifford Robertshaw Legacy Fund. We can’t thank them enough.”

Isla Denoon, Fundraising Team Manager at Sheffield Hospital’s Charity, said: “Brian must have been an incredible man for the staff at C. W. Fletcher & Sons Limited to continue to fundraise for us every year.

“It is only thanks to dedicated community fundraisers like this that we are able to pay for doctors and researchers to continue vital research which we hope will one day find a cure for this devastating cancer.”
