Emma's nod to sports legacy

Britain’s ‘Leonardo of Line Drawing,’ Paul Trevillion, named Emma Brand the winner of the competition, which was open to primary and secondary schools across the city.

Emma, a Y2 pupil at Dore Primary School, will now see her picture hung in Manchester’s National Football Musuem, where thousands of people will see it in the coming months. Emma also won the opportunity to have her class travel to the National Football Museum - all expenses paid - for a special art master-class with Paul. Paul Tfirst made his name drawing legendary cartoon strips like Roy of the Rovers and You Are The Ref. He teamed up with the National Football Museum and The Moor in Sheffield to launch the art competition, which it is hoped will raise awareness around Sheffield’s rich footballing heritage and celebrate the success of the Youdan Trophy - the international competition that is bringing the attention of the footballing world back to the city.

Keith Hackett, director of Youdan Trophy organisers You-Are-The-Ref.com, said: “There are so many footballing firsts in Sheffield but this remarkable heritage is largely unknown to the general public and it was for this reason that we decided to launch the Youdan Trophy. This exciting arts initiative allowed all school children across the city to learn about and celebrate this rich heritage.”

The Youdan Trophy will take place in Sheffield from August 1, at Sheffield Hallam University Sports Park and the Warminster Road facility of the University of Sheffield.
