An army bomb disposal team has been called and a 100m cordon is in place as a precaution while emergency services work together at the scene.

Parkgate tram stop is currently closed due to the incident. Footpaths within the cordon and access roads to Parkgate retail park are also closed.

Parkgate retail park is still open to the public, although some shops will not have access from the side facing the cordon.

South Yorkshire Police said in a statement: “We would like to thank the public for their patience and their cooperation. We will update you again as soon as we have more information.”
