'Significant' police incident reported as road cordoned off next to well known Sheffield college site
Sixth form closed as police deal with nearby incident
Emergency services are currently on the scene next to a Sheffield college after what has been described as a ‘significant police incident’.
South Yorkshire Police has cordoned off Horninglow Road, off Barnsley Road, with blue and white police tape extending across the junction.
Several police cars are also at the scene, along with uniformed police officers
Longley park Sixth Form, which is right next to the police cordon, has announced that it will be closed all day due to the incident.
The college has stated that the incident is not in any way connected to Longley Park Sixth Form, but their car park is inside the police cordon, and it is preventing access to the site.
In a statement this morning, the college said: “Due to a significant police incident near the academy, Longley Park Sixth Form will be closed today to all students and staff.
“Students should not travel to the academy. Work will be set via Teams for all lessons. Further updates will be shared if and when available. Thank you for your understanding.
South Yorkshire Police have been approached for more information on the incident.
