The Woodhead Pass remains closed in both directions a day after a blazing car sparked a wildfire.
National Highways said on the evening of Friday, July 17, the A628 was shut between the A616 at Langsett and the A57 at Hollingworth. Firefighters continued to work at the scene.
South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue published photos showing a burnt out car, blackened moorland and firefighters on the Woodhead Pass which we have put into a gallery.
In a Facebook post it said: “Well done to firefighters for their work containing a serious wildfire off the A628 in Flouch yesterday, initially caused by a car on fire following a road traffic collision.
“And a special thank you to Peak District Moorland Group whose gamekeepers assisted in putting out the blaze, having already been supporting the response to other major fires elsewhere in the Peak District.”
