Eyewitness reports of the scene afterwards described a man on the ground near the top of The Moor, close to the H&M store at Furnival Gate, but the Ambulance Service had logged an incident at Charter Row, with joins onto Furnival Gate a few yards further along the road.

The ambulance service said in a statement: “We received an emergency call at 2.55pm on Wednesday afternoon to report a collision between a bus and pedestrian on Charter Row, Sheffield.

“An ambulance and a specialist paramedic (critical care) were dispatched to the scene and one patient was conveyed to Northern General Hospital.”

South Yorkshire Police have been approached for more information.
