Two people have been taken to hospital after a fire broke out in a flat over a Sheffield pizza shop.

Firefighters were sent to the scene after a fire broke out on City Road earlier this morning. They remain there now.

Crews are tackling a blaze above Toppolis pizza grill, with flames being seen shooting from the windows.

Videos on social media show an ambulance, numerous fire engines and police cars outside the shop.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue service say four fire engines and one aerial appliance are in attendance at a first floor flat fire on City Road, Sheffield. The call came in at 9.09am.

They added: “Two people have been taken to hospital after suffering smoke inhalation.

“The fire is now out and ventilation fans have been deployed to clear the smoke within the building.”
