Elderly couple threatened with knife in bedroom raid in Sheffield

An elderly couple were woken by masked men armed with a knife who raided their Sheffield home in the middle of the night.

The man and woman, both in their 70s, woke up to find two men in their bedroom in Spa View Road, Hackenthorpe, at 2.50am yesterday.

South Yorkshire Police said the raiders were armed with a knife and escaped with the woman’s engagement ring, a gold bracelet and her handbag.

The offenders were slim, white, in their early 20s and wore dark clothing. One was around 6ft 2ins tall and the other 5ft 10ins tall.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: "Detectives in Sheffield are asking for your help after an elderly couple had sentimental jewellery taken from their home.

"At around 2.50am on Monday, the couple, who are both in their 70s, were woken by two men who had broken into the house on Spa View Road, Hackenthorpe.

"The two men are said to have been wearing masks and confronted the couple in their bedroom, reportedly threatening them with a small knife.

"Thankfully, the couple were not injured during the incident; however the men did take the woman’s engagement ring, a gold bracelet and her handbag before leaving the house.

"Officers investigating want to hear from you, if you saw or heard anything suspicious in the area in the early hours of Monday morning."
