Eight-week gas works underway in the region
An eight-week engineering project is underway in South Yorkshire that will keep gas flowing to local homes and businesses until the end of the century.
National Grid is renewing two kilometres of gas pipes in Rotherham and 500 metres in Barnsley as part of the works to replace existing iron mains with tough, long-lasting plastic pipes that will last for at least 80 years.
Temporary traffic lights will be at the junction of Carlton Road and Rotherham Road in Barnsley until mid-February, though it is not expected any traffic measures will be needed on East Bawtry Road, in Rotherham, where work is ongoing until late March.
Gas engineers may need access to homes and businesses to replace service pipes, and people are encouraged to ask for identification.
