PUPILS heading into the great outdoors for a study exercise were joined by their local MP.
John Healey, who represents Wentworth and Dearne, joined youngsters from Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School, Goldthorpe, for the visit to the RSPB’s Old Moor reserve.
The Labour politician said: “Learning about nature is something that is really best done in the outdoors, and the additional benefits to health and wellbeing are clear.”
Jane Holbrook, teacher at Sacred Heart, said: “Visiting Old Moor gave the children the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the environment around us, through practical experiences. It offered excellent facilities and staff.”
The RSPB and other nature groups each year welcome nearly a quarter of a million children and young people to outdoor learning events.
