Teenagers in Sheffield are today celebrating some of the city’s best ever results – banishing fears course changes would damage A-level pass rates.

Nationally, final pass rates were predicted to show a slight downturn after ministers demanded reforms, including a heavier emphasis on end-of-course exams.

But Sheffield schools, including Tapton, Forge Valley, King Edward VII, Sheffield High School, Notre Dame and Longley Park College all bucked the trend with higher pass rates.
