We’re simply the best!

An east end Sheffield infant school has been rated outstanding by inspectors – in every single category.

It’s the second time Brightside Nursery Infants has received the very top grade, but the new report is their best yet.

The Jenkin Road school, which takes in 180 children from a range of ethnic backgrounds, was praised for the quality of its teaching across all year groups.

Pupils were found to make outstanding progress in a school described as ‘vibrant and happy’, leaving with above average standards of attainment.

The youngsters’ behaviour was first class and they were found to be very polite, well mannered and always wanting to do their best.

Headteacher Debbie Kelly was praised for her inspirational and determined leadership, ably supported by senior staff and effective governors.

She said: “I’m delighted that the children, parents, staff and governing body have achieved the recognition they deserve for their commitment to all aspects of school life.

“I am particularly proud to be a member of such a talented and hardworking staff team, who constantly want the best for each child. To be graded ‘outstanding’ for the second time is wonderful.”

The school’s teaching assistants came in for special praise, their well focused support meaning children speaking English as a second language or who had special needs were achieving exceptionally well.

Pupils from all backgrounds were getting on extremely well and so the school was, in the words of one pupil, ‘one happy family’.

Learning mentor Anne Taylor said parents always described a ‘lovely atmosphere’ which was noticeable as soon as they walked through the door.

“Really the report couldn’t have been better. A lot of our success is down to our fantastic headteacher, she’s a very, very strong leader who all the staff hold in high esteem,” she said.

“We also have a lot of adult courses going on for parents and families which gives the school a real community feel.”
