Barnsley Council today congratulated all A-level students across the borough on their ‘tremendous achievements’ this year.

Education officials said they were delighted with this year’s results.

They said overall success rates showed Barnsley students achieved above national benchmarks.

More young people than ever were staying in learning in Barnsley and succeeding, which gave them an excellent foundation for progression into the world of work.

“Since 2004, there has been a year on year increase in young people undertaking post-16 courses in Barnsley, reflecting the growing ambitions of young people in the borough,” said a spokesman.

“We are proud of their achievements. The council wants to make sure that this will provide a firm foundation for further study, employment or training.”
