Students’ work for grass snakes

Have your say

COLLEGE students have given one of the region’s rarest creatures a helping hand.

The first ever link-up with the Forestry Commission saw Construction Foundation and European Social Fund students from North Notts College in Worksop undertake conservation work with grass snakes in Whitwell Wood, Derbyshire.

More than 20 students aged 16 to 18 restored wooden grass snake pits, which will be filled with straw, which after rotting down will create a warm climate perfect for the snake to lay and hatch its eggs.
