Students play their part in major campus refurbishment

Art and design students at a South Yorkshire college are playing a key role in a £2.4 million project to transform its campus.

Learners at Rotherham College of Arts and Technology were asked to outline their ideas for an expanded catering and hospitality department – which includes improvements to the student-run Wharncliffe Restaurant.

They made presentations to college governors and the project design team from architects Cordonier – and elements are to be included in the restaurant’s final design.

Course leader Richard Lyon said: “The project has given students an opportunity to work on a live brief and gain experience in working with clients.”

Principal Gill Alton added: “This was a great opportunity for students to showcase their talents.”
