Students’ aid for refugees

STUDENTS from Sheffield University’s Red Cross society hosted a week of events called Look Beyond the Label to raise awareness about the challenges faced by refugees in the UK - and raised £650 for Red Cross refugee services in South Yorkshire into the bargain.

The series of free events included talks from Nick Scott-Flynn, head of refugee services at the British Red Cross, and from human rights activist Rodrigo Edema.

There were also performances from ice&fire, who explore human rights through performance, and a screening of short films called Smile, all highlighting refugees’ individual identities and experiences.

The students also hosted a gig featuring local bands, a samba band and belly dancers.
