TWO Sheffield University students are celebrating after winning a prestigious new national award.
Kahar Hussain and Zoe Faulkner took centre stage at the Charity Times Awards for their work on a university scheme named the Corporate Social Responsibility Project of the Year.
Both were among the first young people in the country to join the Lloyds Scholars programme, which was launched a year ago in Sheffield and Bristol.
The £1.6 million programme supports young people from lower-income homes, allowing them to enter leading universities with a grant of up to £19,000.
It is open to 30 students at Sheffield University and seeks to help enhance their academic qualifications by providing work experience and skills that can lead to a career.
Kahar and Zoe took part in volunteering and community work which helped them win the award, presented at a ceremony in London.
