PUPILS from a Sheffield school are back from a soujourn in the Sahara – where they stayed in a camp accessible only by camel.
A group of 26 A-level geography students and four staff from Birkdale School in Broomhill made the trip to Morocco – gaining a vivid picture of what life is like in a harsh, difficult, but fantastically beautiful environment.
The tour began in the famous Marrakech square of the Jemaa el Fna, a world heritage site made exciting by street performers, acrobats and snake charmers.
From there they ventured over the High Atlas mountains to explore the more arid scenery near Ouarzazate and visited the film set of the booming local film industry.
Movies such as Kingdom of Heaven, Gladiator and Asterix the Gaul were filmed there.
