SHEFFIELD has been rated the joint second best city in the country to be a student, based on 46,000 reviews by undergraduates from 62 towns.
Sheffield came second to Newcastle with a rating of 62 per cent, two per cent off top spot.
The city came level with Manchester, Glasgow and Liverpool, and ahead of Bristol, Leeds, London, Oxford and Cambridge.
Surveys were carried out by the website accommodationforstudents.com and included criteria such as going out - taking in restaurants, pubs, clubs - and shops.
Other questions rated transport links, community safety and surroundings and facilities such as gyms, libraries and parks.
The website has over 1.8 million registered student users and receives over 475,000 unique visitors in peak months.
