Sheffield FC could be inundated by local school leavers wanting to combine football with a career.
The Club say it is offering a “unique opportunity” for kids leaving secondary school next Summer, inviting them to apply for a ‘Futsal scholarship’ with Hallam University. Students will gain a BTEC Level 3 Diploma qualification (equivalent of three A levels) in sport as well as having six hours a week training and a chance to play Sheffield’s successful futsal team in the national league. Futsal is the increasingly popular five-a-side game, but the most significant advantage of the course will be to identify career choices or a pathway into university. Students must have five GCSEs, including English and Maths.
The course could also increase their chances of becoming a pro or semi pro footballer, or a coach or a referee, if that is the avenue they want to go down.
