A MEETING called by staff to propose a vote of no confidence in the headteacher at a Sheffield school has been postponed until after the summer holidays.

Chair of governors Coun Ian Saunders had been due to address the meeting at Westfield Sports College in Beighton following claims of bullying and intimidation against the head Sue Simmons.

The meeting had been arranged by school staff, one of whom told The Star it was a ‘very unhappy school’ and claimed that teachers there were feeling they were constantly under pressure.

Mrs Simmons replied that the allegations had taken her completely by surprise .

She said she was shocked that anyone could accuse her of such behaviour.

But today it emerged that the meeting has now been postponed until a later date.

Coun Saunders said: “The meeting didn’t go ahead.

“Everything is closing up today and I don’t know when it will be taking place, probably after the summer holidays.”

Tony Mallinson, Sheffield NUT joint divisional secretary, who was planning to attend, confirmed that the meeting hadn’t taken place.

He said: “Staff at the school have taken this very much on themselves and they haven’t involved my level of the union.

“This is really being led by the staff group within the school, but I am aware of what’s been going on.”
