Pupils bury their secrets

PUPILS from a Barnsley primary school buried a time capsule to mark the completion of a new £150,000 ‘secret garden’ project at the town’s Holiday Inn.

Year 2 youngsters from Dodworth St John’s Primary School placed every day items in the capsule that all meant something to them.

The aim was that each item said a little bit about the world they lived in and to give future historians a glimpse into Barnsley life in 2011.

The capsule was placed at the entrance to the garden ahead of its official opening by the Lord Mayor of Barnsley today and has been marked with a plaque with instructions to open it in 2036 - 25 years from now.

The garden project at the hotel has taken three months to complete.
