WHAT a flipping great day!

Children at a Sheffield pre-school celebrated Shrove Tuesday with a traditional old-fashioned pancake toss.

Youngsters at Snowdrops Pre-School on Fulwood Road in Broomhill, part of Ashdell Prep, then dashed across the playground for a pancake race, flipping as they went.

First they’d been given some intensive tuition from school cook Angela Pilling.

Headteacher Anne Camm said: “The children were fascinated by the whole occasion - and were very pleased Mrs Pilling didn’t drop her pancake on the ground!”

A race is held every year at the pre-school and is always a highlight of the spring term. The event then came to the perfect conclusion, with the children enjoying freshly made pancakes for their mid-morning snack.

In Parson Cross, firemen at Elm Lane station cooked pancakes for children aged three to five from Lindsay Nursery. The idea was to encourage tots to eat healthily by filling pancakes with fruit.
