A new free school is to open in Barnsley in September - with room for 60 reception age pupils in its first year.

Elements Primary School, backed by Barnsley College, will for its first year be based in Belle Vue House on Cockerham Lane, close to the town centre.

From September 2016 pupils will move into a new school building on the Honeywell campus 200 metres away.

The primary, part of the Wellspring Academy Trust, will grow one year group at a time until it is full in 2021.

Its backers say Elements will offer ‘an exciting and dynamic 21st century curriculum that raises aspiration and standards for young people in Barnsley’,

There will be iPads in every class, green screen technology and immersive learning environments.
