Fairy tales, rhymes, songs and activities will be laid on as part of an event to encourage more children to read.

Barnsley Central Library, Shambles Street, is holding the event next Thursday, June 27, between 10am and 12.30pm, to celebrate National Bookstart Week.

A prize will be offered for the youngster coming along wearing the best fairy-tale costume.

Parents will also have the opportunity to browse information stands and pick up a free copy of a specially-produced retelling of The Ugly Duckling.

Coun Tim Shepherd, Barnsley Mayor Elect, will be attending and families with pre-school children are invited to come along to join in the fun.
