Day of wonders for 50 pupils

NOBEL Prize winner Professor Sir Harry Kroto is returning to Sheffield University on Tuesday to take pupils on a scientific voyage of discovery.

Sir Harry, a Sheffield graduate, will present his renowned Buckyball Workshop to 50 pupils from St Michael’s School in Barnsley and Birley School in Sheffield.

He was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1996 for his discovery of a new form of carbon, buckyballs.

Pupils will also be taking part in a workshop entitled Polymer Slime, where they will create brightly-coloured polymer slime to demonstrate the idea of joining small molecules together to form long chain polymers.
