A DONCASTER education centre is set for a relaunch - under a different name.
The former Stainforth Further Education Centre will reopen later this month under the new name Doncaster College East.
As well as including classrooms for teaching, the centre will be the home for a number of business units within its site, on Church Road, designed to help people learn how to start trading.
The centre has been refurbished, with a new roof and signs, and decorated inside by students from Doncaster College’s painting and decorating department.
To celebrate the relaunch, Doncaster College is running an event called Have a Go Open Day from 3pm to 7pm on Wednesday, April 18.
There will be a host of activities for the public to have a go at, including cake decoration and sugarcraft, computing, floristry, photography, plaster craftwork and business skills.
There will be demonstrations on nail art techniques in the centre’s Inspire Hair and Beauty Salon, which is run and managed by students from the college.
Prospective students will be able to sign up to a range of new courses and to some well established courses that have run in the past like cake decoration and sugarcraft and hairdressing.
A specialist adviser will be on hand to discuss specific vocational courses to help learners get back into work and there will be advice on starting a business.
Business ‘incubation units’ will be available within the newly-refurbished centre.
The centre will provide all the basic requirements for new business people to start trading.
A spokesman for Doncaster College said: “The relaunch of the centre is part of Doncaster College’s commitment to help meet the needs of the local community and businesses by offering a range of learning opportunities, business start-up and training prospects and advice to all, and in the process helping to make adult learning more accessible.”
