Chicken pie brings pupils a slice of good cluck

WHAT a great pie-dea!

Special needs youngsters from Pennine View Special School, on Old Road, Conisbrough, picked up gold in this year’s Schools Technology Challenge Olympic Pie baking competition at De Warenne Academy.

Their Clukka Pie won the biggest slice of the votes in the final of the business project, organised by Business and Education South Yorkshire and supported by The Topping Pie Company.

A judging panel backed the pie, which was made with orange and tarragon chicken topped with a rich short crust pastry made from scratch by the pupils.

The marketing materials included a logo of an orange chicken crossing the finishing line.

Pennine View teacher, Audrey ApDafydd, said: “We wanted to create something very different and encouraged the children to think about all the things they liked to eat. We came up with lots of different flavour and spice combinations and tried them out.”
