The Doncaster North MP stunned diners when he dropped into a late night town centre takeaway and ordered pie, chips and peas as he mingled with drinkers and partygoers in Doncaster.

Ed, famously pictured having an awkward moment with a bacon sandwich, had no such qualms about joining the upper crust with a slab of pie, dropping into the Yorkshire Pie House on Silver Street where, according to the diner's Facebook page, he enjoyed a slap up feed.

The takeway posted: "Ed Milliband clearly has taste!

The politician, who stepped down as Labour leader after losing to the Conservatives, is understood to have popped into the pie house last Friday night, where his visit was captured on CCTV.
