A NINETEENTH century brewery building in Sheffield has been awarded £11,000 to bring its environmental credentials into the 21st century.

The Exchange Brewery, built in the late 1800s, has been awarded £11,319 from the ScottishPower Green Energy Trust to install energy efficiency measures.

Autism Plus, a charity that supports adults and young people with autism and which is based in the building, will use the funding to help install a solar photovoltaic panel power system - and energy produced will be used to power low energy LED lights, manage the water usage of the premises and power an energy efficient heating system.

Fundraiser Mark Burton said: “We will be able to reduce our energy costs and generate and income through the feed-in tariff.”
