Early warning on building

PLANNERS are making it easier for Rotherham folk to look out for controversial developments.

A Rotherham Council scheme means people who sign up to a database will be told of any development within 100 metres of their home.

The new early warning system is aimed at avoiding situations where people claim not to have been told about developments until the last minute.

Anyone can register for the phe Planning Application Alerts System and they will be sent an email when an application is made in their area.

Planning officer Phil Reynders said: “It is better for us from a local authority point of view as people can see what is going on in their town. I think it must bring about more public involvement as it’s so easy to register.”

Just a week after the new scheme was launched 60 people had signed up.
