Early look at £2.75m centre

A CENTRE set up by a South Yorkshire college to promote environmentally-friendly building techniques has given a sneak preview to one of the area’s Euro MPs.

Linda McAvan, Labour MEP for Yorkshire and The Humber, was shown around Barnsley College’s Think Low Carbon Centre, built at a cost of £2.75 million with European Union funding, ahead of its opening on Wednesday.

Colin Booth, college principal, said: “Modern sustainable design is incredible and the Think Low Carbon Centre demonstrates this throughout, by showcasing the latest green technologies and construction methods for making buildings ultra-efficient.”

Linda said “Barnsley College is looking to the future.The centre is the only project like this in the country, and it is impressive.”
