Eagles target back-to-back wins as they host champs

That is the view of the director of rugby Mark Aston who is looking to emulate last week’s victory over London Broncos, by securing back-to-back victories for the first time since round two of the 2016 season.

The Eagles ran the Centurions close earlier in the campaign when a late score denied Aston’s side at the Leigh Sports Village.

But Aston is confident that with the same attitude and commitment they showed against Broncos, they can add the champions to their recent list of successes.

“Nothing fazes us, we have Leigh next and we should have beaten them at their place,” Aston told The Star.

“We had our chances but we didn’t take them. I am not worried about Leigh, I said to the players after the London game that I wish the Leigh fixture was the following day.

“I said to them you can frustrate me but I wish we had Leigh straight away because I know that we will turn up and put in another performance. To get two performances back-to-back, when we have been very hit and miss, is vital. We need that consistency.

“I said all season it has never been about our ability – I know that we can play. I have seen it in glimpses. We can go into the game with no pressure on us, we will try and challenge them. Let’s go and ask those questions to them and see if they can answer them.”

Aston has kept faith with the squad that defeated London so George Tyson doesn’t make the 19-man squad even though he is available again after serving a two match ban.

The Eagles chief kept the same side after the recent victory over Featherstone and is likely to do the same following the success last week. That means a home debut for Catalans loanee Thibaut Margalet after he made his Eagles bow against the Broncos.

“They are going to be celebrating this week, there is no doubt,” Aston continued.

“What we want to do is go out there and take the scalp of the top team. If we can do it again then we know we go into that final game against Whitehaven with a boat load of confidence.”
