Following decisions made by director of rugby Mark Aston to make changes off the field to arrest their slide, former Halifax ace Worrincy now believes it is down to the players to show the same willing when they cross the white line.

With Aston’s decision to change the captain and vice-captain not paying immediate dividends, Worrincy says it is time the players put on a united front to try to take the responsibility of changing the Eagles’ fortunes.

“We are bitterly disappointed to be where we are in the league at the moment, but there is only us who can change that,” Worrincy told The Star.

“The gaffer has made some changes, he has changed some personnel, but it is up to all the 17 of us to make the difference on the field. It shouldn’t be the captain and vice captain alone. We all have to pull together now and try and turn our season around.”

The Eagles face Halifax on Sunday.

And they know that Richard Marshall’s side are knocking on the door of a place in the top four. It doesn’t get easier for Aston’s side with fourth placed Batley to come the following week.

After defeats in recent weeks against Bradford and London, the chances of a top four finish have now evaporated.

Worrrincy is aware of the size of the task facing the Eagles, and knows a significant improvement is required to halt a run of just one win in their last seven outings.

“All the games are tough, if you don’t turn up with your A game or don’t turn up with the right attitude you are going to struggle,” admitted the 31-year-old.

“We know we are playing more teams in the top end of the league; we need to make sure we turn up with the right intensity, focus and effort to turn around our results.

“The gaffer has made a decision about changing skippers, but personally on the field we all need to be leaders from one to 17. The captain is there, he has the permission to speak to the officials, but it is up to all of us to lead by example with our performances and efforts on the field.”

The Eagles face Halifax at The Shay this Sunday, kick off 3pm.
