Eagles have been close to an agreement with a new unnamed ‘sponsor’ for some time, but no formal deal has been struck.

Aston, who is also again currently sitting in the chief executive chair for the time being, stressed that a deal is still very close before reassuring supporters that whatever the scenario going forward, the Eagles will survive.

“We are very close; we are still looking to get it over the line shortly,” Aston said.

“It is getting closer, and as such we are moving forward. We have the kit supplier sorted, we have revealed the new kit so things are progressing quite nicely. The sooner it happens the better.

“We need to just pull everything together because the one thing we really want is to have this new sponsor on board. If for any reason it didn’t come through we will find a way to stay alive. Contracts are being sorted with players.”

Eagles are also still to confirm a venue for next season, with Aston stating that he is still working towards a resolution that best suits the club for the next 12 months, before their long awaited move into the Olympic Legacy Park.

Without setting a date, Aston has expressed his desire to have both the sponsor and venue confirmed soon.

“Hopefully within the next couple of weeks we’ll have an announcement of where we are playing, and everything else will be tied up as well,” he added.

“There are still a couple of options on the table for us, it is just a case of tieing it all down really. Rest assured we are working really hard on that at this moment.”

Meanwhile, Eagles have agreed to play Doncaster in a pre-season friendly on Sunday 22nd January at the Keepmoat Stadium.
