Dumped car fire wakes residents

RESIDENTS in Wadsley, Sheffield, were woken in the early hours after a car was dumped and torched outside homes.

People on Rydalhurst Avenue raised the alarm after a Ford Fiesta was set ablaze.

The fire service tackled the flames and the police recovered the vehicle at 1.30am on Sunday.

A VW Passat found burning on Laudsdale Road, East Herringthorpe, Rotherham, was dealt with by firefighters at 1.10am yesterday. The cause of the blaze is not known.

A Subaru Impreza and a van which went up in flames on Lunn Road, Cudworth, Barnsley, at 2.40am yesterday, and a Ford Focus found burning on Gerald Place, Kendray, Barnsley, at 3.20am yesterday, had both been set on fire by arsonists.

And firefighters were called to the M1 in South Yorkshire after a Fiat Punto caught fire as it was travelled northbound between junctions 37 and 38 Dodworth and Darton at 8.45pm on Sunday.
