“She said she sold the items to a friend for £10 and she used that money to buy heroin.”

May pleaded guilty to the theft which took place on January 27.

Defence solicitor Steve Brint said: “She has had ups and downs and been involved in not the best relationships and she had been introduced to heroin and this had taken hold of her and so had drink.”

Mr Brint explained that May has stopped taking heroin and is on a methadone prescription to help wean herself off the drug.

Magistrates told May they were willing to give her a chance by imposing a 12 month conditional discharge.

But they warned that if she commits any further offences she will be re-sentenced for the theft matter.

She was also ordered to pay £70 costs and a £15 victim surcharge and £65 in compensation.
