The Environment Agency and Sheffield Council are monitoring developments.

In a statement, the Environment Agency said: “Officers are attending the scene of a fire at a scrap metal yard in Sheffield, working with South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue to manage the risk of pollution from water used to fight the blaze. This includes dye-testing local drains, which may lead to a harmless discoloration to nearby watercourses.”

An investigation into the cause of the blaze will begin once it is fully extinguished.
