Drone captures scale of scrap yard blaze in Sheffield as fire continues to burn
A drone captured the scale of a huge scrap yard blaze in Sheffield which is continuing to burn today.
The blaze on Carlisle Street, Burngreave, broke out yesterday afternoon and smoke and flames could be seen across the city.
As a precaution, residents have been urged to keep their doors and windows closed.
At the height of the blaze there were six fire crews from South Yorkshire at the scene as well as support from Manchester and Humberside.
The Environment Agency and Sheffield Council are monitoring developments.
In a statement, the Environment Agency said: “Officers are attending the scene of a fire at a scrap metal yard in Sheffield, working with South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue to manage the risk of pollution from water used to fight the blaze. This includes dye-testing local drains, which may lead to a harmless discoloration to nearby watercourses.”
An investigation into the cause of the blaze will begin once it is fully extinguished.
