The Western Bank bridge on the University of Sheffield campus is to undergo a 22-week repair job.

Lane closures will be in place at night for the first fortnight, with further diversions planned on each side of the road as the project continues.

Sheffield Council officials have said the bridge will not be fully closed during the work but drivers have been warned queues around the area are ‘likely’.

Coun Terry Fox said: “We are working very closely with the University in order to ensure that disruption is kept to a minimum throughout the works. This is a vital piece of maintenance work to ensure the safety and integrity of a major route into the city centre.”
