Drivers have lucky escape after tyre blow out on M1

The accident happened this afternoon on a stretch of the motorway near Barnsley when the cars collided after one had suffered a tyre failure.

Police said both cars ended up down the embankment after the smash, but that fortunately, only the vehicles were damaged and not the drivers.

Officers at the scene posted photos of the incident to social media suggesting that the two drivers should ‘buy lottery tickets’ this weekend.
