MARKED and unmarked police cars fitted with ‘Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras’ were used in an operation in Barnsley designed to target cars believed to have been used in crimes.

Officers involved in the two-day operation in the Dearne Valley were also looking for vehicles being driven in an anti-social manner.

A Thurnscoe man aged in his 20s was arrested for failing to stop and driving without insurance.

Officers who later searched his home found £600 worth of cannabis and a significant amount of cash.

He has been bailed pending further enquiries.

Fixed penalty notices were also issued to 12 motorists.

Nine drivers were issued with notices for speeding, one for using ‘red’ diesel, one for having no insurance and another for using a mobile phone while behind the wheel.
