BeerX returns to the Steel City from March 16 to 19 and one lucky beer guzzler will join the UK’s top beer experts to decide which breweries from across the country should walk away with a coveted gold award.

The Society of Independent Brewers’ flagship event, at iceSheffield, will hold judging sessions for its national beer competition on March 15, ahead of the festival opening to the public the following evening.

Nick Stafford, SIBA’s commercial director, said: “The beers in the SIBA national final showcase the best of the best in British brewing.

“Opening up a judging spot to a member of the public will give us another perspective. Perhaps they will be an avid home brewer, or just someone who has developed a passion for drinking craft beers in some of our finest pubs. We’re looking forward to receiving entries.”

Competition entrants must tell SIBA in 100 words or less why they should be considered for the judging position. A reasonable knowledge of different beer styles is an advantage and passion is essential. Entrants must be over 18 and entries should be titled ‘SIBA National Beer Judge Competition’ and sent via tinyurl.com/BeerXcomp by February 14.

Unlike other organisations, SIBA recognises beers in cask, keg, bottle and can, which makes BeerX the biggest craft beer festival in the UK. The event will serve more than 300 different beers on rotation throughout the event from its show-stopping 30 metre bar and Brewers’ Yard area; a new addition for 2016, which will host 20 small UK brewery bars.
