Dream Disney trip for terminally ill Doncaster toddler
A toddler with a terminal muscle-wasting condition is set to enjoy a trip of a lifetime to Disneyland thanks to a fundraising drive.
Residents have rallied round to ensure three-year-old Olly Kibble and his family can jet off to the theme park in Paris in July.
The youngster of Church Meadow Road, Rossington was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, an incurable genetic condition, when he was two.
The condition means even simple tasks like sitting up and standing are a battle for him. The life expectancy for someone with the condition, that also affects the heart, is mid-to-late-20s but Olly’s family have vowed to ensure the youngster’s life is packed with happy memories.
Olly’s parents Karl and Jemma launched a fundraising campaign following Olly’s diagnosis with 40 per cent of the proceeds going to The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign to fund research.
The remaining cash will be used to help Olly live life to the full.
Mum Jemma said: “We are overwhelmed by the help and support we have received and we are very grateful.
“Even people who don’t know Olly have been so generous, businesses have donated prizes for charity events and everyone has rallied round.
“It was a dream to be able to take Olly to Disneyland and people have helped make that a reality.
“Olly’s favourite characters are Mickey and Minnie Mouse but since we booked the trip we’ve been watching lots of Disney films and he loves Toy Story so he can’t wait to see the characters from that.
“He keeps saying that he is excited to go on the big plane.
“It will be amazing for us to see him enjoying himself in Disneyland and it will be a trip of a lifetime.”
As well as raising cash the family are keen to raise awareness about the rare condition and help fund research to help other families in the same situation.
Olly’s uncle Chris Lee and his stepdaughter Emily Simpson are among those who have pitched in, raising more than £1,000 by taking part in a sky dive.
Fundraising work is continuing with a number of events already planned, including a coffee morning at The Millstone, Tickhill on April 16 from 10am to noon.
