Dream comes true for teenage rider Nat

Former club mascot Nathan Greaves will make his dream debut for Sheffield in today's inter-league clash at Leicester (1pm).

Greaves, a former British Under-15 Champion, was a regular at Owlerton as a schoolboy and often did pre-match laps n a 250cc machine.

Now the Chesterfield-born racer, 18, makes the step up to the senior side after spending a brief spell with Workington before a badly broken leg ended his 2015 season.

And he hopes to become a trump card as one of the British youngsters introduced at every club under new team building rules.

He said: “When I started last year in the Premier League there was no rule in place for the National League riders like there is now.

“I still scored some points then, and I was just getting going before I got injured. I think my last meeting before I broke my leg I got paid 11, so I know I can do it.

“In theory, the new rule with the reserves should make things slightly easier, and I know from riding in the National League I’m capable of beating the opposition No.7s I’ll be coming up against.

“It’s still going to be tough, but having a taste of the Premier League last year has given me plenty of confidence so hopefully I can pick up where I left off before my injury and be one of the better No.7s in the Premier League this year.”

Tigers are without Simon Stead today as the skipper sits out the final days of a compulsory ban following concussion at King’s Lynn last weekend – Aussie ace Josh Grajczonek makes a guest appearance.

Stead will return for the return leg at Owlerton on Thursday.
