The signed-up smokers were urged to quit in time for Christmas and spend their money on festive gifts instead of cigarettes.

The NHS Doncaster Stop Smoking Service was promoting Time to Quit at the Clock Corner in Doncaster to encourage smokers to think about quitting now, so they can reap the financial benefits in time for Christmas.

Maryanne Wylde, stop smoking specialist, said smoking was expensive - and advisors demonstrated how much money a smoker could save which could be spent instead on Christmas gifts.
