Double South Yorkshire cash machine burglaries 'not linked' say detectives

Detectives appealing for information about two cash machine burglaries say they are not linking the two incidents at the moment.

The twin burglaries happened within three hours of each other at two locations in South Yorkshire in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday 18 July).

The first burglary was reported at 1.15am, at a bank on King Street in Hoyland, Barnsley when a cash machine was damaged but no money was taken.

Four men were arrested on suspicion of burglary a short time later. A 30-year-old, 26-year-old, 20-year-old and a 21-year-old, all from Barnsley, are currently in police custody.

A second burglary was reported at a shop on Rotherham Road in Dinnington at 3.45am when men dressed in dark clothing, driving a dark coloured BMW removed a cash machine from the store and made off with a substantial amount of cash.

Enquiries are ongoing and forensic and CCTV examination continues at both sites.

Acting Detective Inspector Aneela Khalil-Khan said: “We are not linking the two incidents at present and would appeal for anyone who may have seen or heard anything that may relate to these incidents to call officers immediately.
