Motorists on Sandygate Road in Crosspool suffered huge delays after the bus skidded to a halt in the middle of the road at around 10am.

This was not the only bus in Sheffield to struggle in the snow this morning with many others reporting that they have been 'unable to reach their destinations'.

A number of services were forced to divert from their normal routes or terminate early as a result of snow on high grounds or steep hills.

These are the current issues reported by First South Yorkshire

- Service 8/8a - Not serving Basegreen. Using Birley Moor Road direct between Intake and Birley crossroads.

- Service 51 - Buses diverting away from Sandygate Road near The Plough pub, operating via Coldwell Lane and Manchester Road.

- Service 72 - Not serving Waverley estate due to mix of poor conditions and badly parked cars. At present, buses are operating direct along Highfield Spring.

- Service 83 - Unable to serve Greystones Road and High Storrs Road; buses operating via Ecclesall Road and Ringinglow Road at present. Also omitting Firshill Crescent due to conditions - using Cooks Wood Road and Rutland Road.

- Service 120 - Unable to serve Crimicar Lane; buses now terminating at Ranmoor.

The company said that other services are currently running normally, but warned of further delays throughout the morning due to weather conditions and road conditions.

A spokesman said: "If you are going out this morning, please remember it is cold and pavements may be slippery. Please wrap up warm and leave a little extra time to make sure you get around safely."
