Doncaster's Graham donates holiday fund to hospital ward after surgery

A generous patient has donated his holiday savings to Doncaster Royal Infirmary after recovering from surgery.

Graham Gibbins, from Bentley had surgery in October last year and was so impressed with the care he received on Ward 20, he wanted to give something extra special back.

Graham has been associated with the Scawthorpe Scorpions Junior Football Club for 35 years and, following his surgery, the club members had a collection to send him on a relaxing holiday as a treat and to recuperate.

After being presented with the £1,000 they managed to raise, Graham suggested donating the funds to the hospital as a ‘thank you’, and for the benefit of other local people receiving care on the ward.

Graham said: “I’d like to thank the junior football club and the parents for raising the money to send me away for a holiday after my surgery. It was my decision to give the money to the ward. I’d also like to give a big thank you to all the nurses on Ward 20, they were brilliant”

Sue Birchall, Sister on Ward 20, said: “We can’t thank Graham enough for this extremely selfless donation. We’d also like to say thank you to his family and ‘The Scorpions’ for raising the money and supporting Graham through his surgery. We wish Graham the very best in his continued recovery.”

The money will be used to enhance and improve the patients experience on Ward 20.
