Doncaster Team GB athlete Beth Dobbin to turn on home village's Christmas lights

Doncaster sprinter Beth Dobbin is set to sparkle off the track this weekend – by turning on the Christmas lights in her home village.

The 25-year-old athlete, who has become a Team GB regular, will be turning on the illuminations in her home village of Sprotbrough on Saturday night.Beth, daughter of former Doncaster Rovers star Jim Dobbin, will flick the switch at 5.30pm near Otto’s wine bar.

The Scottish record holder for the 200 metres with a time of 22.50 secs, she won the final at British Championships in 2018.

She also finished third in the 200 metres at the Athletics World Cup in London in the same year and competed a month later at the European Championships in Berlin, and finished second in her 200 metres semi-final in 22.84 secs on 10 August, to automatically qualify for the following days final, where she finished seventh in a time of 22.93 secs.

In July this year, she finished third in the 200 metres at the Müller Anniversary Games in London in a new personal best of 22.50 secs, improving her own Scottish Record by 0.09 secs.

Unfortunately, she failed to win a place in the 200m final at the World Athletics Championships in Doha earlier this year, finishing sixth in her semi final.
